Top 5 Brandon Lee Movies

Here is my pick of the best 5 Brandon Lee movies of all time. Have a read and let me know what you think in the comments below. Also check out my unboxing of ‘Rapid Fire’ and ‘Showdown In Little Tokyo’ below

Legacy Of Rage

Director: Ronny Yu

Brandon sadly only made one film in Hong Kong, and surprisingly, it was not a Golden Harvest production. Instead, this captivating movie comes from D&B Films, and it holds a special place as my favorite film from Brandon.

Mediumrare released the film on Blu-ray in the UK on the 14th of December, 2015. However, it appears to be currently out of print. If you’re looking to own this film, the German release seems to be the best option available at the moment. Let’s remain hopeful that in 2024, 88 Films will give ‘Legacy Of Rage’ the deluxe edition treatment it deserves.

Synopsis:

Brandon (Brandon Lee) is a tough young man working by day as a car compactor in the auto junkyard and by night as a waiter. Good looking and skilled in martial arts, Brandon has one major weakness – an unceasing desire to use his might for justice.

A so called friend Michael (Michael Wong) manages to get Brandon framed for the slaughter of a cop and consequently sent to prison. In jail he becomes a close friend of a clever small-time crook called Hoi after coming to Hoi’s aid during a fight with some other inmates.

When Brandon learns how he was set up by Michael he and Hoi try, unsuccessfully, to break out of jail. Six years later they are released and by now Michael has become a Mafia boss leading an army of blood thirsty thugs.

Having armed themselves with the latest weapons Brandon and Hoi declare war on Michael. The final confrontation escalates into a bloodbath which will determine their ultimate fate!

The Crow

Director: Alex Proyas

I remember the moment my mum woke me up, sharing the shocking news she had just read in the paper about Brandon Lee’s untimely death. For a split second, I couldn’t help but think it was some kind of April fools joke. However, it quickly became apparent that it was indeed a tragic reality. It reminded me of the impact certain events can have on our lives, prompting me to reflect on the significance of the movies we hold dear.

The 4K version from Paramount is coming 7th of May. Comes in standard and steelbook editions. I am getting the steelbook for sure. Only $5 extra.

Synopsis:

Before SIN CITY and THE DARK KNIGHT rose, there was THE CROW- the “dark, lurid revenge fantasy” (The New York Times) from director Alex Proyas (DARK CITY) that entranced audiences and critics alike. Featuring Brandon Lee in his final performance, THE CROW is the tale of young musician Eric Draven (Lee) who, along with his fiancée, is murdered on the eve of their Halloween wedding. Exactly one year after their deaths, Eric is risen from the grave by a

Showdown In Little Tokyo

Director: Mark Lester

Unfortunately, the UK missed out on a theatrical release of ‘Showdown In Little Tokyo’. Instead, we had to patiently await its arrival on video.

The steel book edition from Spain is the top choice available, featuring 8 lobby cards. Purchase from Amazon UK below.

Synopsis:

A warrior and a wise guy. They’re Los Angeles who mix punches with punchlines in a knock-down, gun-down Showdown in Little Tokyo. Dolph Lundgren is the muscle, an American samurai steeped in Eastern traditions. Brandon Lee is a “Valley dude” quipster with a lot of fight in him. Together they hang tough in a war with a lurid L.A. underworld of Japanese drug lords. As directed by Mark L. Lester (Commando), that combat is a frenzied comic book come to explosive life. How this dynamic duo takes on and flattens all comers makes for “smart, fast-moving martial arts action adventure. A class act” (Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times).

Kung Fu The Movie

Stars: David Carradine, Brandon Lee & Mako

Director: Richard Lang

Had to include the TV movie for ‘Kung Fu’ Brandon Lee plays the illegitimate son of David Carradine’s character.

Synopsis:

David Carradine returns as the Old West’s most unusual hero in Kung Fu: The Movie, filmed a decade after the popular Kung Fu TV series ended. He still speaks softly and hits hard. And killers still stalk Carradine’s fugitive Shaolin priest Kwai Chang Caine in this exciting adventure that adds a captivating new twist: one of the potential assassins is the now-grown son Caine left behind years ago. Brandon Lee (Showdown in Little Tokyo, Rapid Fire) portrays the son, a killing force when under the mysterious spell of a vindictive warlord (Mako, of The Big Brawl and The Perfect Weapon). Also featured are Martin Landau and Benson Fong, and Keye Luke as Master Po, the venerable blind teacher who likens young Caine to a mere “grasshopper.”
